Missouri River Regional Library will host a “Pop-Up Used Book Sale” this weekend.
The sale will be a fundraiser for ABLE (Adult Basic Literacy Education) and the library, MRRL marketing coordinator Natalie Newville said.
ABLE promotes literacy in Jefferson City and surrounding communities by providing tutors who meet with students on a regular basis. Each learner sets their own reading goals — whether they are interested in reading to their children or grandchildren, or trying to improve their own skills.
The library has hosted pop-up book sales for the past few years. While they don’t replace MRRL’s annual book sale, which it canceled again this year, they do produce revenue and ease pressure on available space.
Recent pop-up sales have focused on children’s books or adult nonfiction.
“We’re trying to cycle through all the different genres,” Newville said.
The sale will take place Friday through Monday at the library, 214 Adams St. in Jefferson City. Hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday.
Hardbacks are priced at $2, paperbacks at $1. MRRL will set reasonable prices for tomes on its collectible and rare books table.
Monday’s portion will be a box sale — patrons will pay $5 for a small box of books and $8 for a large box. The library provides the boxes, which are two
distinct sizes, Newville said.
